This week in OurDelta — Vol 1
Discipline for running enhanced MySQL builds: know your patches, test failover.
OurDelta shipped enhanced MySQL builds — community packages with selected patches ahead of or beside stock vendor binaries.
Why they existed
- Backported performance and replication fixes
- Distro packaging people actually ran
- A proving ground for ideas that later landed elsewhere (including MariaDB-era trees)
Operating rule
- Know exactly which patches you run
- Keep a rebuild path
- Test failover after upgrades
- Prefer upstream absorption when it arrives
Brand names change. The discipline does not: patched binaries without inventory are a liability.
