This week in OurDelta — Vol 1

Discipline for running enhanced MySQL builds: know your patches, test failover.

OurDelta shipped enhanced MySQL builds — community packages with selected patches ahead of or beside stock vendor binaries.

Why they existed

  • Backported performance and replication fixes
  • Distro packaging people actually ran
  • A proving ground for ideas that later landed elsewhere (including MariaDB-era trees)

Operating rule

  1. Know exactly which patches you run
  2. Keep a rebuild path
  3. Test failover after upgrades
  4. Prefer upstream absorption when it arrives

Brand names change. The discipline does not: patched binaries without inventory are a liability.
