So, I didn’t get to meet Oracle’s Monica, mainly because she kinda vanished. I had my own talk after hers, and when I went downstairs to the exhibition she was already gone. The Oracle booth had a few people manning it, but not much crowd.
Same for the Sybase stand, actually. They had a video running, [...]
LinuxWorld shows are all over the world now, and this year for the first time: Sydney Australia. Later this morning, I’ll be speaking in the “business models” panel of the conference – people are always curious how and where we thrive. Should be interesting.
Right now I’m listening to Monica Kumar from Oracle. As Matt Asay [...]
I’ve been browsing around infrastructure tools, starting earlier with Postfix (SMTP server), and an POP/IMAP server.
There are a few reasons I’m doing this.
From the MySQL perspective, where tools are able to use MySQL, we would like to see it used optimally and provide some assistance where needed.
From my own perspective, infrastructure tools have always been [...]
A momentous occasion, Planet MySQL now has a total of 100 feeds! That’s only 8 months after we introduced the new software and put some extra attention into it.
The 100th feed submission happened to come from Taneli Otala. Excellent! Meanwhile Brian has been nudging David to blog also….
I just saw a draft of the UC presentation by Batara Kesuma about mixi.co.jp, a social networking site in Japan. It has experienced phenomenal growth since its inception, and Batara-San will tell the practical/technical story of how they scaled their Apache-Perl-MySQL based environment. Excellent stuff. Arigato!
We know that people are pretty interested in “stuff” with the MySQL logo/name on it. Like, last year’s anniversary mug was pretty popular, as are the t-shirts we hand out at various conferences. So we’re working on more! We’re the only ones who can make this happen, since it involves our trademarks.
This is your chance [...]
I’ll be speaking at the Open Source Software Forum on April 6th in Hobart, Tasmania. Speaking, I say? They offered me the keynote straight after the minister’s intro. Grand!
I’ve been asked to talk about “bridging the divide between bright developers and the real world”, basically a mix of my “How to Eat an Elephant” and [...]
The phpMyAdmin project will be participating in the DotOrg Pavilion at the MySQL Users Conference. Marc even put up a banner for it on their site – thanks!
There’s a whole range of UC banners available at http://mysqluc.com/images/mysqluc2006/banners/ (they should link to http://www.mysqluc.com/)
I’m in a little debate with our sales people. We have one of the new MySQL 5.0 for Developers courses scheduled for June in Melbourne. Yes, the course is available in Europe and the US also!
It appears that in some areas there’s more interest in DBA courses than in Developer courses. That’s not new, as [...]
Spotted via Google News: Ellison: Open source needs big vendors to thrive
That’s ok, Larry! That’s why we eat healthy, partner with for instance HP and Dell, and grow pretty darn fast ourselves, too. With no intention of stopping.
Since I joined the company in 2001, we’ve doubled our employee count and revenue pretty much every year. [...]
